For Samantha & Richard, their Chinese tea ceremony at The Lannin in Long Island was one of the most heartfelt — and joyful — parts of their wedding weekend.

The couple wanted to honor their heritage with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony — a moment to show respect to their parents and elders while receiving blessings for their marriage. Our team completely transformed the ballroom at The Lannin into a space that felt warm, intimate, and authentically Chinese, creating the perfect setting for this special ritual.

Turning a Western Venue into a Chinese Tea Ceremony Room

The Lannin is a classic Long Island venue with a bright, elegant, and modern aesthetic. To bring Samantha & Richard’s vision to life, we layered rich red and gold accents throughout the decor set up — from a double happiness backdrop to red floral arrangements on tall acrylic stands.

A red tea runner anchored the setup, and we placed traditional straw cushions on the floor for the kneeling ceremony. The combination of modern venue architecture with Chinese cultural symbols created a space that felt both elevated and meaningful.

Elegant Red & Gold Details

For the ceremony, Samantha wore a traditional red qipao with gold phoenix embroidery, while Richard wore a matching changshan. Together, they knelt on the woven cushions and offered tea to their parents, smiling as they received blessings and red envelopes.

Every detail — from the tea set to the floral colors — was carefully chosen to highlight luck, prosperity, and respect for family.

Honoring Tradition: 早生贵子 Display

One of the most meaningful details we designed was the 早生贵子 display — a traditional Chinese blessing wishing the couple children and a prosperous family life.

We included:

  • Red dates (枣) – Representing “早” (early)

  • Peanuts (花生) – Symbolizing birth

  • Longan (桂圆) – Representing family unity

  • Lotus seeds (莲子) – Symbolizing fertility and continuity

Placed near the tea setup, this arrangement gave the ceremony an added layer of cultural depth and made it even more memorable for Samantha & Richard.

Fun & Memorable Experience for the Couple

This tea ceremony was not only meaningful but also full of laughter and joy. We provided fun props for Samantha & Richard to enjoy, including:

  • A playful fan that said “老婆最大” (“Wife is the boss”), which had everyone in the room laughing and nodding in agreement.

  • A delicate pearl-and-jewel-covered fan for the bride, adding an elegant, photogenic touch to her look.

We also used beautiful, traditional tea sets with intricate designs that photographed beautifully and made the entire experience feel elevated. These details made the tea ceremony not just a ritual, but a celebration of culture and family — and an experience the couple will never forget.

Guest Experience

The elders were deeply touched by how authentic and traditional the setup looked. Many shared that it reminded them of the ceremonies they experienced growing up. Guests were impressed by the attention to detail — from the kneeling cushions to the tea set — and loved seeing such a meaningful tradition honored in a beautiful way.

The combination of tradition and a little humor made the moment even more special. The room was filled with smiles, laughter, and blessings — creating memories that felt heartfelt and connected.
